The Baryon Fraction Distribution in X-rays Galaxy Clusters
نویسندگان
چکیده
The baryon fraction in galaxy clusters is one of the most direct way to constrain Ω0. The baryonic fraction is estimated to be in the range fb = (0.15 − 0.20) h −3/2 50 which is several times higher than expected from the observed light element abundances in Ω0 = 1 universe, leading to the conclusion that we live in low density universe. In this work I will first present the various steps which lead to these results and then foccus on the distribution of the baryon fraction inside clusters. I will show that while the baryon fraction in clusters follows a scaling law, its theoretical expected shape does not agree with what is inferred from observations. I will show that when various factors entering into the determination of clusters gas fraction are taken into account the observed baryon fraction profile matches better the predictions, provided that the average baryon fraction at the virial radius is lower than previously found fb ∼ 10%.

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and the distribution of the baryons is gal...
متن کاملBaryon Distribution in Galaxy Clusters as a Result of Sedimentation of Helium Nuclei.
Heavy particles in galaxy clusters tend to be more centrally concentrated than light ones according to the Boltzmann distribution. An estimate of the drift velocity suggests that it is possible that the helium nuclei may have entirely or partially sedimented into the cluster core within the Hubble time. We demonstrate this scenario using the Navarro-Frenk-White profile as the dark matter distri...

We present a study of the distribution of AGN in clusters of galaxies with a uniformly selected, spectroscopically complete sample of 35 AGN in eight clusters of galaxies at z = 0.06 → 0.31. We find that the 12 AGN with LX > 1042 erg s−1 in cluster members more luminous than a rest-frame MR < −20 mag are more centrally concentrated than typical cluster galaxies of this luminosity, although thes...

The intergalactic gas in groups and clusters of galaxies bears the indelible stamp of galaxy formation. We present a comparison between observations and simple theoretical models indicating that radiative cooling governs the entropy scale that sets the core radius of the intracluster medium. Entropy measured at the radius 0.1r200 scales as T , in accord with cooling-threshold models for the reg...
